The Malankara Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, an Orthodox church in Malankara (Kerala, India) is an integral part of the Universal Syriac Orthodox Church with the Patriarch of  Antioch, His Holiness Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas as  its supreme head. The local head of the church in Malankara is the Catholicose of India, His Beatitude Aboon Mor Baselios Thomas I, ordained  by and accountable to the Patriarch of Antioch.

 

St. Peter's Cathedral is the spiritual center of Syrian Orthodox Christians in India's capital city, New Delhi. The cathedral is situated in an exclusive and well-laid out site in the heart of the city hand picked by the late Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. On 28th May, 1990, the Patriarch, H.H. Mor Ignatius Zakka I, designated the church as the "Eastern Cathedral of the Patriarch of Antioch."

Night Vigil on 11/11/11 at St. Peter's Cathedral, New Delhi

Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Youth Association Delhi Diocese Organised Night Vigil on 11th Nov 2011 (11/11/11) at St. Peter's Patriarchal Cathedral, New Delhi. The overnight program was covered with classes, adoration, glorious devotional hymns, prayers followed by confession and counselling. Priests from Delhi Diocese with their presence blessed the occasion and classes were conducted by them. The program started with devotional songs by Delhi Diocese coir team followed by Lord’s prayer and prayer of dedication. Rev.Fr. Benny Abraham briefed about the basic faith and beliefs of Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Christians and its origin. Rev.Fr. Paulson Edakkattil blessed the gathering by his class on ‘Divine Calling’. Rev. Fr. Issac Mathew illustrated in his speech the ‘qualities to be followed in our life’. Rev. Fr. Shiju George and Rev. Fr. Cherian Ipe led the adoration prayer and worship. An excellent skit on ‘moral values of Christian life’ was performed by Youth Association in between the classes.

Holy Qurbana was celebrated early in the morning by Very Rev.Markose Kocheril Corepiscopa.

H.G Mor Osthatheos Issac visited His Holiness the Patriarch Ignatious Zakka I Iwas on 25th of July at St. Ignatiose Centre, Damascus. His Grace informed the recent developments in the dioceses of Mylapore and Delhi. His Holiness appreciated the growth of both dioceses and gave the Apostolic Blessings.

 

Mor Osthatheos Issac celebrated the Holy Qurbona in St. Aphrem's chapel in the monastery  on 29th July 2011 and offered special prayers on the memory of L.L Mor Osthatheos Thomas, the predecessor of H.G

Annual Regional Holy Episcopal Synod of Syrian Orthodox Church in India concluded.


Annual regional Holy synod of Syrian Orthodox Church in India concluded. H.B Catholicose Baselious Thomas 1st Presided over the synod sessions which held at the Church Head quarters in India for the last 3 days. all the Metropolitans of the Holy synod participated. Holy synod approved the decision of working committee to start the processing for a medial college under Church administration. Also approved the decision to go ahead with the project in Parumala. Synod also will be requesting HH Patriarch Ignatius Zakka 1st for getting permission to ordain Bishops for the vacant posts.

On 4th July, 1976, Rev. Sleeba, who was deputed to Delhi by late Catholicose H.B. Mor Baselios Paulose II conducted the first service at the St. George school in Defence Colony, following which a decision to form a new parish was made. The St. Gregorius Jacobite Syrian Orthodox parish was formed on 24th October 1976 and regular worship commenced at the Abner Memorial School premises under the leadership of V. Rev. Thomas Moothedom Corepiscopa (later Metropolitan Mor Theophilos Thomas).
